Dropping off here and changing to the BTS or MRT is a good way to avoid the horrendous traffic of Thai capital. You can also take BTS at Victory Monument as it would be cheaper but covering the distance between Chatuchak and Victory Monument by BTS would be much faster, especially during rush hour.

Boarding on A2 Bus at Don Muang Airport might be not convenient for passengers with children and big luggage as the luggage space inside buses is limited. The buses on A2 route also tend to get crowded during rush hour so you might need to stand all the way to your destination. The journey can take much more than 40 minutes, as the length of it depends on the time of the day and traffic conditions.
