Chiang Khan is a small city in Loei province located along the Mekong River. It's a Thai tourist top destination for holidays and weekends. You will spot only a few westerners here. We weren’t expecting too much of our visit here but it was a really nice place worth to visit and spend a day or more.
You can find a variety of interesting and reasonably priced foods here for trying as well.
Laotian Noodle Soup (Khao Piak Sen): ข้าวเปียกเส้น
Khao Piak Sen is a Lao-Style Noodle Soup. Literally, Khao Piak Sen means wet rice noodle. It is made of fresh rice noodle which is thick and round, in chicken or pork broth. The toppings of noodle can be varying from chicken, pork, meatball to egg. It is a perfect food to eat for breakfast in Chiang Khan. Price is 40-45 THB.
Baby Shrimp (Goong Foi) : กุ้งฝอย
Dishes made of baby shrimps from Mekong River are easy to find around Chiang Khan. Crispy fried shrimps, called "Goong Foi Tod Krob", are made of baby shrimps coated in butter and seasoned flour then deep fried until changing the color to brown. The dish is served with chili sauce. Another dish you shouldn't miss is grilled shrimps, called "Goong Foi Yang". These baby shrimps are served on wooden skewers.

Khai Grata (Eggs on the Pan) : ไข่กะทะ
Khai Grata is a popular dish in Northeast Thailand. This literally means "Pan Eggs". It's a super simple one pan breakfast meal made of fried eggs topped with ground pork, Chinese sausage and green onion. It costs 40-45 THB.
Enoki Mushrooms Wrapped in Bacon : เบคอนพันเห็ดเข็มทองย่าง
Bacon makes everything taste better and when you combine it with mushrooms, it tastes so good. It costs 20 baht for 1 skewer and 50 baht for 3 skewers.
Pa Thong Ko (The stuffed Chinese Donuts) : ปาท่องโก๋
Pa Thong Ko is a deep-fried dough stick. It’s a snack that you can easily find on the street all around Thailand. What makes Pa Thong Ko in Chiang Khan special is meat and something sweet stuffed inside of it. You can choose any stuffing you like from pork, sweet pandan cream, banana to red bean. We ordered Pa Thong Ko with Pork that was topped with sweet chili sauce. It costs 30 THB.
